Welcome to the BISC Junior School. I hope you will enjoy learning about us and find your visit to our website interesting and informative.

My colleagues and I have tried to give you a “flavour” of the Junior School in words and pictures. It can only be a flavour as it's difficult to convey accurately in words and pictures all that goes on in a busy, productive but above all happy school. The school is organised into three distinct  yet integral sections.

Mr. Michael Higgins
Head of Junior School

* Foundation Stage (3-5 year olds)

* Key Stage 1  (5-7 year olds)

* Key Stage 2 ( 7-11 year olds)

All pupils follow a programme based on the UK National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the Early Learning Goals as outlined in the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage. It is based on UK schemes of work but we tailor them to suit the needs of our children in a multicultural international school.

In Key Stage 1, class teachers teach the children for most of the week. They also receive specialist teaching in music, games and PE.

In Key Stage 2, more specialist teaching is introduced to include drama and from Year 4, French. We also introduce setting for English and mathematics in Key Stage 2

ICT

The children use a fully-equipped, state of the art ICT laboratory where there is no need to share a computer as there are enough for all children to have their own. All children use this laboratory from Foundation 2 to Year 6. Foundation 1 has its own networked machines in their classroom.

Library and Science Facilities

All children from Foundation 1 to Year 6 use the Junior library, which is well stocked with reference, non-fiction and fiction books. It is a spacious, light and inviting room for the children to use either for private study or relaxed quiet reading. We also have our own dedicated Junior Science lab which is used mainly by Key Stage 2 children, while the younger members of the school undertake their scientific investigations in their classrooms and school environs!

Sport

The school has specialist sporting facilities  Here the children are able to use the swimming pool, running track and fields for outdoor games. Again, all lessons are taken by members of the school's specialist PE staff.

We believe you will find the Junior School a happy, friendly and welcoming place to visit. There is an open invitation to come and see us. You will be most welcome. We look forward to meeting you.

Art Gallery

Please click to view a selection of artworks performed by Junior students. The gallery represents work done by a variety of material and colours from different year groups.

Clubs and Activities

In addition to the academic curriculum, the children take part in an after-school activities programme, organised and run by teachers. The activities range from art and craft to horse-riding, basketball, football, computer club, gymnastics, cookery, brownies and a maths club, to name but a few. The activities programme runs on three afternoons a week.

Trips and Visits

Our staff also organise numerous educational visits and trips to support the children's work. Year 6 go on a 3 -day residential visit to Alexandria as part of their work on World War II and visit the war graves and memorials at El Alamein. Year 5 meanwhile go south to Luxor and visit the awe-inspiring and wonderful memorials of ancient Pharaonic Egypt. All our pupils, including FS1, undertake at least one trip each term.
