Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) Art Gallery

In Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2) we cover a variety of topics in Art. We encourage the children to express themselves using a variety of media – charcoal, clay, chalk. We work in both 2D and 3D – painting, sculptures and models. We teach them to use different techniques and we discuss their work and the work of famous artists such as Picasso, Miro and Jackson Pollack.

Year One children Khaled and Nour (aged 6) made some hand puppets as presents to themselves for the winter holiday. They designed them on paper first and then painted the puppets with fabric paint. A teacher helped them to add other details such as buttons, string hair, feathers, pom-poms and ribbons

And paintings by Claudio and Leila (6yrs). Each term the children each paint a special picture on a subject of their choice. Their remit is to think about mixing colours together to the best effect and not to leave any white spaces.

Year Two: In the latter part of the 1 st term we learned about Ourselves. The children looked at the proportions of the human face. They were given half of a face from a magazine and drew the missing half using colour pencils. They had to pay attention to the size and position of the features and also had to match the colours used in the original picture.

As part of a topic on living things we talked about the ways that we use plants. We looked at a selection of fruit. Nadya drew a pineapple using oil pastels.
