Sports Roundup - Week 10
Varsity Girls Football
On Friday 28th October the varsity girls' football team played in a tournament against Alsson, BSE and ISC-6. The BISC girls were organised but struggled to score. BISC had tight games with each team and despite dominating possession and chances, BISC drew 2 games and lost 1.
Varsity Boys Football
On Friday 28th October 4 teams arrived at 8.30am to BISC football field to take part in the CISSA competition (Cairo International Schools Sport Association). Each team played each other once during a game that consisted of 2 20minute half’s in an 11 a-side format. The BISC team rooster was made of a combination of 6th formers and a number of the U16 team that recently had success on their recent trip to the Mediterranean Cup.
BISC began their campaign against BSE which turned out to be an intense affair that seen numerous cautions, a late penalty awarded to BSE which gave them a 2.1 win. BISC then played ISC as their second fixture of the competition of which they lost 3.1 to a very well organized ISC team. BISC’s third and final game of the competition came against the strongest team of the competition El Alsson. With BISC having lost their opening 2 games they had very little to play for in the final game of the afternoon which seen many changes to the BISC 11 man starting team to allow all players to have a good amount of game time. The day was a disappointing competition for the under 19 team.
JV Volleyball Boys and Girls
On Saturday 29th October the Junior Varsity Boys and Girls Volleyball teams played in a tournament against El Alsson, BSE and ISC-6 (boys only), which was hosted by BISC.
The girls games were varied, with BISC beating BSE in both sets. However, El Alsson put up more of a challenge and after a close second set, they beat BISC 2-0. The boys games were incredibly close with some fantastic play from ISC-6. The tournament ended with BISC Girls finishing 2nd overall and BISC boys also finishing in 2nd place.
Well done to all students who represented BISC in this tournament.
JV Girls Basketball
The JV girls played their first basketball game of the season on Monday, against BSE. It was, in fact, the first time many of them had played since the tournament last year. The girls lost 24-18 but showed some promising skills in both attack and defence.
The team was ably led by Lyla Elamrawy, the ball handler, who scored 8 of the 9 baskets and played non stop for 40 minutes. Dima Sami and Jenane Kamel battled defensively, stealing balls and redistributing in our attacking half. Jasmine Abdel Moneim and Nour Abouel Makarem positioned themselves well on the right of the key and attempted some close range lay-up shots but were out of practise and were affected by the oppositions close marking skills. Amina Moustafa scored our other basket and linked up nicely with Lyla to inject some fast paced balls into the key. Solid and dedicated performances came from the other members if the team; Amina Abouel Fettouh, Salma Hagrass, Khadiga Ben Aly, Fadila Omar and Maya Karakotly. Training will start on Tuesdays in preparation for the JV tournament.
