Dubai Training Camp

Dubai Training Camp Day 3 and 4, December 2016 - January 2017

Day 3 saw swimmers get up bright and early to train in Dubai at 5.00am, which saw some very sleepy children wander out of bed.

The children boarded the transport and headed off to the pool in darkness in Dubai, however, they were not deterred as they were heading to training.

Arriving at ‘GEMS World Academy’ in Dubai, they then got changed, climbed into the pool and began their long course training, tackling it head on. However, to their surprise, Adam Peaty, two-time Olympic Medallist at ‘RIO 2016’, was training in the pool in the next lane to them.

I think our swimmers were not even aware who was training next to them at the time, until we told them, and they started training even harder.

Back to hotel for breakfast and then off shopping to the ‘Mall of Dubai’, where they were overwhelmed by the shops that were on offer. After the trek to the mall, it was then time to head off to the beach, to enjoy a little bit of sun and splash around in the sea, before heading off to training again.

Back to the short course pool, the children were preparing with starts and turns, along with some short sprints, in readiness for the next day’s competition.

The swimmers then headed to competition. We had the boys warm up first, followed by the girls. Some of the best clubs in Dubai were there and the children equipped themselves well, taking 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals.

Those who equipped themselves especially well, were Youssef Madi, Hamza Samra, Youssef Sami and Lily El Far - to name a few.
